Season Champions Crowned at EVS

JIM FALLS, WI (August 24, 2014) – WAXX 104.5 FM sponsored the 2014 Season Championships in all six classes with the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, and EVS Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets. Winners included Kevin Adams, Curt Myers, Cory Crapser, Mike Knudtson, George Richards, and Buddy Hanestad.

For the fourth consecutive week, Kevin Adams was leading and Mike Anderson had moved from fifth to third in National Points. By virtue of their one two finish in the heat, they shared the front row of the feature. Adams immediately powered to the high side and led all twenty, caution free laps, for yet another feature win on the season. Anderson jumped the cushion and lost second to Matt Leer but he made a decisive move to regain the position. Leer attempted a slide job one lap later that resulted in contact and several cars getting bunched up causing a shakeup in the running order. Leer gained second as Jay Richardson captured third. Anderson was relegated to fourth as the trio drove the top side in a tight line to the finish. Steve Hallquist followed them home to finish fifth.

The Super Stock feature had Curt Myers and Tommy Richards setting the pace and just like the other races in the evening, the winner was decided by turn one. After the original start was aborted, Myers drove to the lead and lapped all the way up to the fifth place car. His performance was absolutely dominating, winning by nearly a half lap over Richards, who also had a huge lead over third place finishing Tony Falkner. Sam Fankhauser had yet another smooth run in a Super Stock and James Cimfl rounded out the top five.

The Midwest Modifieds came to green behind Corey Crapser and Nick Koehler as Crapser powered to the point and never looked back, stretching his lead in convincing style. Koehler, Shane Halopka, Mike Truscott, and Jake Smith waged a terrific battle for second through fifth. Multiple times, players in this four car challenge got side by side but interestingly, they never changed positions though the entire event.
The Street Stock feature came to green led by Danny Richards and Adam Soltis with Richards driving into the lead and appearing destined for a feature win. However, his car began to noticeably have a miss in the motor, and two laps later, it stalled in front of the pack exiting turn four. Everyone behind him was able to miss him and the first and only pass of the night for the lead occurred under yellow. Because Cody Kummer had dropped out on the first lap, there were only three cars remaining. Travis Hazelton also fell by the wayside, leaving Knudtson and Soltis in a two car battle for the win. The race remained quite close the remaining distance as Knudtson maintained the point to the checkered.
George Richards and Mike Knopps held the front row as Richards led at the start of the Pure Stock feature and he too led every lap of the event. Knopps never faded as he remained close to the lead as he fought a three car battle for the position with third finishing Todd Roshell and Pat Smith in fourth. Jay Barnier Jr. who had missed the week before due to damage to his racecar returned to action and was scored fifth at the checkers.

Scott Westaby and Buddy Hanestad were in the front row for the Hornets as Hanestad drove to the lead and controlled the feature which was stopped once for a car losing a tire. Casey Gross used his third starting position and won a long battle with Westaby for second. Jay Welk and Bob Seidler rounded out the top five.

Sunday, August 31 and Monday, September 01, 2014 brings the Labor Day special and last races of the season. There will be two complete shows as River Country Coop bring night one and Gordy County Market sponsors night two of what many of the drivers affectionately call the Jim Town Showdown. Car counts will likely be higher as drivers begin to travel for the invitational season with many chasing National Points. Once again, there will be a kid’s bike giveaway each night sponsored by Kelly Oium Well Drilling of Strum and Kris Oium Asphalt Paving of Eleva. One lucky boy and one lucky girl will win a bike!

The pits open at 4:00 PM with draw cut off at 5:30 PM. The main gates open at 4:30 PM for spectators with Hot Laps beginning at 5:30 PM and racing action at 6:00 PM. Race day information can be obtained by calling 715-382-5367 or visiting the website at eaglevalleyspeedway.net.
