THUNDERHILL FEATURE WINNERS DONATE TO ALSA.ORG / TITLES UP FOR GRABS

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) August 23, 2014 Results- With only one point night remaining several championships are up for grabs. While some point leaders flourished, others lost several precious points. For tonight, Billy LeMieux was living large with another double header weekend, taking the win in the IMCA Stock Cars and Street Stocks for the third time this season at Thunderhill Raceway. Other feature winners were Greg Gretz (IMCA Modified), Josh Massart (IMCA Sport Mod) and Jeremy Jauquet (IMCA Hobby Stock). Ashley Maccoux was victorious the Powder Puff race.

On behalf of Thunderhill Raceway track promoter Woody Wodack made a sizable contribution to the ALS Foundation for every feature winner and track official that took the water challenge.

With the final night fast approaching the quest for championships in 2014 have a clear direction. Four out of the five divisions have points battles within 6 points or less. These titles will come down the final lap in each division. Make sure you see all the action, plus the “Trailer Race of Destruction” on Saturday, August 30.

David Reinhardt raced from his pole position to lead the opening 2 circuits of the IMCA Stock Car feature. Next inline for the top spot was family member Scott Reinhardt, until Billy LeMieux road the highline to the lead. Title contender Shawn Havel charged through the pack, making his way to second. LeMieux had the field covered, going unchallenged the remainder of the caution free event. Havel cut into Dave Bouche’s point lead with a second place finish. Jamie Suchocki, Scott Reinhardt and Dylan Heilmann all had solid nights finishing in the top five. Bouche has a 3 point advantage over Havel heading into the final night.

Sometimes it doesn’t take a 20 car field to have an exiting race. Second year IMCA Modified driver Greg Gretz worked around Tyler Hackett for the lead early in the 20 lap main event. Point leader Todd Dart moved into second and began to apply heavy pressure on Gretz. Gretz worked the extreme top side while Dart hugged the tires. Dart pulled along side Gretz several times as they passed the stripe but each lap it was Gretz holding the top spot. The cagey veteran threw everything he could at the leader but when the Coors Light checker flag fell it was Gretz getting his first feature win in 2014. Dart padded his point lead with the runner up position, followed by Hackett, James Tebon and Eric Arneson. Dart leads Tebon by 14 points.

Although Josh Massart led all 20 laps in the IMCA Sport Mod main, it was anything but easy in the highly contested event. The first challenger was Jared VanLaanen in the early going. A series of cautions kept the field locked to the back spoiler of the lime green machine. Todd Wiese used the re-racks to work from the 10th spot to the top 5. Once Wiese got clear of traffic he ran down Massart. With the white flag waving Wiese ducked inside Massart for lead. Wiese got a little to low in turn 2 causing him to clip the infield tire, sending his machine spinning wildly into the infield. Massart went on to collect his second feature win of the season. VanLaanen second, Cody Rass, Ryan LeMieux and Chris Budzban completed the top five. Budzban leads Ryan LeMieux by 6 points.

Billy LeMieux led all 15 laps en route to a clean sweep in the Street Stock division. Jeremy Dubois was second, Geno Sternard came home third, Kevin Luedtke rallied late for fourth and Mike Sargent rounded out the top five. Sternard leads Luedtke by a mere 3 markers.

IMCA Hobby Stock point leader Jeremy Jauquet came into the night with a 1 point lead and left with a 4 point edge after picking up the feature win. Dave Schmidt capped off another solid night with second, early leader Marcus Moede had to settle for third. Second place points runner Derek Moede was fourth, Amber Weidner worked to a fifth place finish.

Next Saturday, August 30th will be the final night in 2014. Floors by Josh will bring you a wild night of racing. The evening will have a “Trick or Treat” theme. Children are encouraged to dress up. The “Trailer Race of Construction” will complete the nights events along with championship photos by Dan Lewis Photography.
