Budzo Racing Salvages 8th Place Finish at Luxemburg Speedway

Coming into the weekend, we were 3rd in points at Luxemburg Speedway, 2 points out of 2nd and only 9 points out of the lead.

Starting 6th of 7 cars in my heat race, I needed to finish in the top-4 in order to start in the 5th row for the feature. I didn’t have a great start to the race, and was only able to maintain in the 6th position. After lifting off the gas to dodge a spinning car, Josh Lambert was able to get by to keep me in the 6th spot when the checkers flew.

Our heat race finish put me 18th out of 22 on the starting grid for the feature. I started to make my moves on the bottom of the fast racing surface, shooting up to 13th before the only caution flag flew. On the restart, I again went back to the bottom groove and started to pick off cars as the laps wound down in the race. I ran up to 8th behind Troy DeGrave, and went to the outside in the final few laps to attempt a pass for 7th. I came up just short in my attempt, officially finishing in 8th place.

With DeGrave’s 7th place finish, I now trail him by 3 points for 2nd place in the standings. Andy Kleczka finished in 2nd place, putting us 15 points out of the lead.

Persistent rain showers would cancel the racing program scheduled for Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway. With the rainout, our points lead remains at 7 over Ryan LeMieux. There are 2 points nights remaining at both Luxemburg and Thunderhill.

This week we have 3 nights of racing on our schedule. On Thursday night, we will be at Luxemburg Speedway for a $750-to-Win show with the Corn Belt Clash late model series as the headlining division. Then on Friday night we will race a regular points program at Luxemburg again. To finish things off, we’ll be at Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday looking to protect our points lead heading into championship night the following week.
