Lonnie Leu Memorial

JIM FALLS, WI (August 17, 2014) – the Lonnie Leu Memorial sponsored by Lisa Leu and Krug’s Towing offered racing in all six classes with the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, and EVS Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets. Winners included Kevin Adams, Curt Myers, Cory Crapser, Danny Richards, Todd Roshell, and Johny Severtson. Krug’s Towing paid out $50.00 bonuses to two drivers chosen via a drawing and they were received by Curt Myers and Andrew Lee.

In addition, it was the last points night of the year and Track Champions were crowned in all six classes. The champions included WISSOTA Modifieds, Mike Anderson; Super Stocks, Curt Myers; Midwest Modifieds, Shane Halopka; Street Stocks, Danny Richards; EVS Pure Stocks, George Richards; and EVS Hornets, Scott Westaby.

For the third week running, Kevin Adams was leading and Mike Anderson was fifth in National Points. Again, Adams had already won at Rice Lake Speedway the night before. In addition, he trailed Anderson by 14 points at the track for the championship at Eagle Valley. An early multi car crash eliminated Anderson from the heat, which Adams won, tightening the gap even further. Adams started outside of Jesse Glenz on the front row of the feature. Before the first lap was completed, Matt Leer rolled to a stop with a tire issue. Leer went to the work area but was not able to make the call for the restart. Adams powered into the lead and did exactly what he had to do to put pressure on Anderson by leading all twenty laps without being seriously challenged. Glenz drove home in second followed by Steve Hallquist. Sixth starting Anderson was scored in fourth, securing the Track Championship and Luke Schilling rounded out the top five.

The Super Stock feature had David Pospyhalla and Curt Hazelton setting the pace, but it was fourth starting Sam Fankhauser taking the early lead. Curt Myers, who is deeply involved in the chase for a National Points Championship drove into the lead on lap two and never looked back. His run to the checkers was halted by a grinding crash as Darrel Hazelton slapped the front stretch wall and then drove hard into the barrier in turn one. On the restart, Myers again drove to a commanding lead. Behind him, Fankhauser, driving Mark Stender’s car for only the third time ran extremely strong in second as he backed up his first career heat win in a Super Stock earlier in the evening. A strong running Matthew Dibb challenged for the position but settled for third in front of Scott Geiger and Tony Falkner.

The Midwest Modifieds came to green behind Antonio Pintaro and Nick Koehler as Koehler powered to the point. However, on lap two, fourth starting Cory Crapser drove to the lead and Michael Truscott found his way into third as he chases a National Points title. The race ran caution free as Crapser disappeared into lapped traffic and was scored the convincing winner. A late charge by Truscott was warded off by second finishing Koehler. Grant Southworth and Shane Halopka rounded out the top five.

The Street Stock feature came to green led by Danny Richards and Adam Soltis with Richards driving into the lead and onto yet another feature win. Soltis held second for the majority of the race but was passed late in the running by Mike Knudtson. Cody Kummer settled with forth after a serious challenge for third on the final circuit. Heidi Karshbaum finished with her second consecutive top five finish at the Valley.

Pole sitter Nicholas Hazelton-Perry was flanked by a dominate Todd Roshell at the start of the Pure Stock feature as Roshell drove to the lead. The lone caution in the race was brought out by Hazelton-Perry, resetting the field. Again Roshell drove to the lead, but George Richards remained close. With two laps to go, Richards used the high side to power into the lead, however, Roshell regained the position before the completion of the lap. Roshell drove home to the win, followed by Richards, Duke Leu, Mike Grover, and Cody Tisdale.

Casey Gross and Scott Westaby were in the front row for the Hornets as Westaby drove to the lead. Johny Severtson closed on the leader and took the point as extremely aggressive driving occurred behind the lead pack. A late yellow flag for Chad Prissel set up a green white checkered shoot out which was controlled by Severtson, who led the group to the checkered flag. Beating and banging by second on back shuffled the order at the finish as Kasey Gross finished second, followed by Travis Hoff, Chad Prissel and last place starting Andrew Lee.
