SpeedZone August 15 results

Oshkosh August 15- Another perfect August night greeted a big show to the SpeedZone Friday night as the rain delayed 2014 Walk of Fame inducted four new members along with the LeRoy Dehn Memorial Street Stock event and the Capital Credit Union Kids Ride Along had something for all ages.

A field of 120 cars checked in for competition and did not disappoint, producing a pair of first time winners and tightening the point chases with one full point night remaining.

The 2014 Walk of Fame inductees were honored at intermission. Wayne Wechwerth gave a heartfelt speech accepting his plaque on how much any accomplishments in racing are what keep drivers pushing forward, and that the induction is truly the highlight of his career even though there are more deserving people to come. Wilmer Schoppenhorst accepted his plaque and for his late brother, Willy, expressing how much fun the experience was. Sharon Gracyalny accepted for her late husband, Stan, and how much the sport meant to the entire family as they all went to the track and all continue to compete today.

The IMCA Sport Mods were on the track first for their feature with Adam Peschek grabbed the early lead and set the pace for 4 laps before a couple cautions interrupted the action. On the final restart, Jon Schultz was able to wrestle the top spot away and started to pull away from the field. At the mid point, Schultz was on cruise in front with Peschek still alone in second. Point leader, Ryan Besaw was closing in third followed by Jeff Schmuhl. Robby Thiel and Steve Schneider.

A final caution on lap 14 bunched the field on Schultz but he again took off on the green leaving a tight battle for the runner up spot. Schultz sped off with this second feature win of the season with Schmuhl taking the runner up finish. Peschek won a finish line battle with Besaw for third with Schneider taking fifth and Keith Smith rounding out the top six.

Jeff Wicinski took command of the Outlaw Chassis Street Stock main with Ryan Blank, Steve Gawaresky, Steve Ecker and Todd Ewald behind. A caution on lap 4 regrouped the field and Wicinski again took control and was able to open a slight lead as the battle for the runner up spot was tight behind. Blank, Gawaresky, point leader, Jerry Winkler, Mark Schultz and Patty Winkler were doubled up behind trying to find a way forward.

A final lap 11 caution made for a long stretch run witrh Wicinski again at the point with Blank, Gwaresky, Winkler and Schultz behind. Blank put the pressure on with Gawaresky putting his machine alongside. Blank was finally able to get an opening inside the leader on lap 16 and the pair ran side by side for a couple laps before Wicinski re-took the top spot. Blank again powered to the inside and was sacored the leader a lap later. Blank continued to battle with Wicinski until the white flag appeared and was finally able to pull ahead and claim his second straight feaure win. Schulz snuck by Wicinski on the final lap to take the runner up spot with Winkler taking fourth. Frank Knaus and Gawaresky rounded out the top six.

An opening lap melee in the Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car main was the only stop in the feature action with Mark Schoenemann leading the opening circuit before John Heinz took over. A lap 5 caution quickly re grouped the field, but Scheffler again pulled away quickly leaving the race for the second spot. Josh Zdroik ended a five lap battle with Reed, moving into second on lap 9 before the final caution for a tire on the track slowed the race on lap 10.

Scheffler again had the field on his rear bumper, but again, was able to pull away on the restart. Zdroik, Tim Robbiins, Mike Klenz, Eddie Muenster and point leader, Sean Jerovetz were in line. Henry pulled ahead of the field as Fish, Larry Richards, Doehling, Charlie Sancinati and Terry Van Roy were left behind for second place. The first of 4 second half race cautions flew on lap 12 and bunched the field. Henry was now hounded by Richards, Fish, Reichanberger and Sancinati.
