Fastest speeds of the season at Eagle River Speedway
Whether it was the hot and humid weather, or to put on a show for a special race fan that was watching from above, Eagle River Speedway fans saw the methanol-fueled Micro Sprint 600’s hit speeds over 93 miles per hour this past Friday NIght. It was in the feature that Jake Reif made a high speed pass on the challenging ‘hairpin’ 3rd turn to take the lead away from his father, Jerry. The Reifs are from Deerbrook, Wisconsin.
It was the Tori Stevens Memorial Race Tori was lost her battle with Spinal Muscular Autropy at the age of 11. Tori was an avid race fan, as she watched her favorite drivers from her wheelchair until lthe disease took her life. To honor Tori, 20 bicycles and dozens of back-packs were given away. However Tadd Schoonover of Eagle River was not going to give away his chance at winning his first WISSOTA Midwest Modified Feature of the year. Schoonover had to fend off the tracks top drivers, including the current point leader and defending class champion for the past 3 years, Jesse Aho of Toivola, Michigan. At the end it wasn’t Aho that was the stiffest challenge for Schoonover. He had to hold off fellow Eagle River driver, Guy Carley for the first half of the race, then Tomahawk’s Jeff Klopstein for the second half.
One of the teams that worked hard in gathering all the gifts and putting the race on was Hedges Racing of Eagle River. CJ Hedges, Jr of Tomahawk is the current point leader in the Pure Stock Class. However Hedges was unable to break into the Top 3 at the end of the Pure Stock Feature. A feature that saw an exciting battle between Eagle River’s Ken Valeria, Rhinelander”s Tyler Lundberg, and Tomahawk’s Michael Brown. Valeria was able to hold on for the win.
It was also in the Truck Class that the current point leader would fail to garner a win. James Koga held off point leader Dylan Speigelhoff to tighten the year end ponts battle in this class.
Without current Junior Sprint Point leader, Wyatt McIntyre of Greenland racing, this would be another class where the point leader would not get the win. Shioctpn’s Dylan Larson won that feature.
The only class where the current point leader and defending champion would get a feature win was in the WISSOTA Street Stock, where Bruce Crossing, Michigan’s Jordan Kurtti, took the checkered.
Stock Car racing returns to Eagle River Speedway this coming Friday NIght.
