Josh Long Stays Perfect On The Weekend With IMCA Modified Win At 141 Speedway
on August 3, 2014 at 10:42 am(Francis Creek, WI)- The rookie of the year title is locked up for Josh Long. Only thing left is to start knocking off feature wins and a possible championship run. Josh Long earned his second feature win of the weekend with Saturday night’s IMCA Modified Feature win.
Feature winners in the other five divisions included: Larry Karcz(IMCA Stockcars) J.J. Anderson(IMCA Sportmods) Paul Diefenthaler(Street Stocks) Ben Stumpf(Grand Nationals) and Scott Johnson(4 Cylinders.)
Randy Markwardt opened as the leader of the IMCA Modified brigade. Jay Matthias jumped all over the leader and up front on lap two and set the pace over the next four laps until point leader Johnny Whitman encountered problems and saw the only caution of the race. Josh Long jumped up to the front of the field along with Shawn Kilgore who started deep in the field. Long emerged as the man to beat as he grabbed the lead on Matthias on lap twelve down-low. Long went unchallenged the rest of the way and picked up his second win of the weekend after he also won at Luxemburg Speedway. Kilgore won the late race battle with Matthias for second. R.M. Van Pay fought to finish fourth with Eric Mahlik fifth.
Mike Brehmer paced the IMCA Stockcar field around the 1/3 mile clay oval early in feature race action. Dustin Loberger flew by on lap four and started to enhance his lead. Larry Karcz and Rod Snellenberger ran to the second and third spots on the track. Karcz started tracking down Loberger with eight laps remaining. Lap after lap Karcz cut into the lead until he got to the back bumper of the leader with two laps remaining. Karcz was able to keep his racer on the bottom off turn two and took the lead coming to the white flag. Karcz picked up his second feature win of the season in front of Loberger. Snellenberger increased his point lead with his third place finish. Luke Lemmens beat Rick Mahlberg back to the line for fifth.
Shawn Umentum led the IMCA Sportmod Feature until the first caution flag flew on lap two. Hunter Parsons moved into the top spot on lap four and led through the final caution on lap eight. With Parsons getting yet another good restart and putting a decent distance on the field; the battle was for second. J.J. Anderson used the tacky track and his driving ability to search for the fastest lane. Anderson worked up top and then moved down a lane and found the right lane. Anderson came roaring passed on lap fifteen and never looked back. He earned his second win of the season in front of Parsons. Mike Dauphinais ran to an impressive third place. Robby Thiel finished fourth with Cody Schroeder earning his second top five of the weekend.
A green to checkered finish is what fans were greeted with in the Street Stock A main event. Britt Broman earned the top position on the first lap but Tim Mueller came calling on lap two. Mueller would lead until lap ten when Andy Fuhrmann and Paul Diefenthaler ran into the top spots. Diefenthaler powered passed down low on lap fourteen on his way to win number three of the season. More importantly it closed the point lead to two points. Fuhrmann finished a season best second with Mueller third. Broman had a season best fourth with Mike Conard fifth.
Three caution flags were the name of the game at the start of the Grand National Feature. Dave Gauger led the first lap once the race got going. Ben Stumpf’s race winning move came on lap two when he made a four-wide pass for the lead in turn four. Stumpf pulled away from the field and kept everyone behind him the rest of the way including two cautions mid-race. Point leader Kevin Naidl came on late in the race and made the finish a little to close for comfort for Stumpf. Naidl just missed the win on the final corner losing to Stumpf by ¾ of a car. Matt Jackson had his best run of the season finishing third. Chad Ninmer was fourth with Shawn Schmitt fifth.
You just have to be there at the end of the race to have a chance to win it. That was Scott Johnson’s motto in the 4 Cylinder Feature. Matt Brehmer and Shaun Bangart were locked in a battle literally and figuratively on the white flag lap off of turn two. Johnson came along on the bottom of the track and took his second win of the season in front of the duo. Alex Seidl was scored fourth and Cole Mitchell fifth.
Next Saturday Night, August 9th is the finale of the Red, White and Blue Series that will see the IMCA Modified winner take home $1000. The series winner will get the 602 GM Crate motor.
