EWSC JULY LATE MODEL INVITATIONAL WINNER NICK ANVELINK; NAIDL, VANHIERDEN, AND MEYERHOFER TAKE HOME WINS
Friday, July 18th 2014, Manitowoc WI. – Another fabulous day provided by Mother Nature, another multi-grooved track, and a ton of speed were on display during the Late Model Invitational. Drivers and fans were treated to some fantastic displays of driving throughout the night.
GRAND NATIONALS
The first feature of the night hit the track with 98 Kevin Naidl (Cato), 21 Kevin Lubach (Elkhart Lake), 74 Chad Ninmer (Cleveland), 93 Daniel Schumacher (Germantown), and 8j Matt Jackson (Sheboygan) starting in the top 5. Naidl ran out to the first lap lead, but yellow flags flew immediately before a second lap when Ninmer, Schumacher, 24k Tyler Kulow (New Holstein), and 7 Brian Gilles (Plymouth) were involved in an incident in Turn 4. The cars had to be pried apart with wreckers, but all cars were able to continue but were forced to the rear of the field. Naidl led Lubach, Don Schumacher (Milwaukee), and Jackson back to speed, and Jackson rolled into 2nd challenging Naidl. Lap 5 brought the next yellow, as 9 Seth Hoeffner spun in Turn 4 setting up another restart showing Naidl, Jackson, Lubach, 37 Ryan Minster (Sheboygan) all the way up from starting 13th, and Don Schumacher. Lubach and Jackson battled again for 2nd, with Jackson grabbing it before the next caution at Lap 9, this time for 94b Scott Bundy spinning in Turn 4. Naidl once again led Jackson, Minster, Lubach, and 7s Tim Simon (Fon du Lac) to the green, while Gilles and 47 Nick Schumacher had quietly moved through the field to challenge for top 5 spots. The final caution flew on Lap 11, for an incident in Turn 4 involving Hoeffner and 66 Travis Moehring (Sheboygan), putting the race at its time limit and forcing a green, white, checkered finish. Naidl led Jackson, Minster, Gilles, Simon, and Lubach to the green for the final dash, and would hold on for the win. Minster, Jackson, Gilles, Simon, N. Schumacher, Lubach, and 81n Zach Axlen (Sheboygan) rounded out the top 8. Minster and Nick Schumacher tied for Hard Charger honors, both picking up 12 positions.

BAILEIGH INDUSTRIAL LATE MODELS
With the large field of Late Models showing for the Invitational, a large B Main field took to the track after intermission with 1f David Fieber, d1 Turk Letizia (Milwaukee), 8r Bill Rezutek (Big Bend), 3 Brett Swedberg (Shawano), and Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) rolling off in the top 5. After a false start, Fieber rolled into the lead and Rezutek into 2nd. From way deep in the lineup, 28r Mark Rose (Dorchester) and 21x Kurt Moeller put on furious charges to get to the top 8 and transfer. With no cautions in the event, everyone was scrambling to get to the qualifying spots, using every available inch of racing surface. Fieber held on for the win, followed by Rose, Swedberg, 79 Schmidt, Rezutek, 70 Brian Gilles (Plymouth), 19 Eric VanIten, and Moeller. Rose and Moeller earned their way in the hard way both picking up 7 positions.
The Baileigh Industrial Main Event rolled out to a 4 wide salute for the fans, showing their appreciation for the turnout. The field formed up with 1 Doug Blashe on the pole and 15 Nick Anvelink, 66 Ron Berna (Green Bay), 74 Russ Scheffler (Waukesha), and 7b Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah) filling in the top 5. Blashe used the low line to take the early lead, but Anvelink set sail on the high line and rolled into the lead on Lap 2. Five laps in Anvelink, Blashe, Scheffler, Berna and 15s Rick Scheffler (Waukesha) still held the top 5 spots, with 27x Justin Hirt and 74m Mitch McGrath (Waukesha) mounting a challenge. Caution flew on Lap 11 for 21x Moeller spinning out in Turn 3, bunching the field back together and setting up a scramble on the restart. Anvelink led Scheffler, Blashe, Berna, Rick Scheffler, Buhler, Hirt, and McGrath. At the midway point it was still Anvelink out front, 74 Russ, 15s Rick, Buhler, Blashe, McGrath, Hirt, and Berna. Berna was battling with 97 Justin Schmidt (Cleveland) and 98 Tom Naeyaert (Shawano), while 79 Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) was moving in to join them. With 5 to go and deep in lapped traffic, Anvelink remained in the lead, with Rick and Russ pushing each other hard for 2nd, Buhler, and McGrath. Anvelink rolled under the dual checkers for the win, followed by Russ Scheffler, Rick Scheffler, Buhler, McGrath, Hirt, Blashe, Berna, Justin Schmidt and Naeyaert. Hard Charger honors to McGrath picking up 7 positions.

DEFAUT AUTO SPORTMODS
The Defaut Auto Sportmods thundered onto the racing surface a bit earlier in the show than normal and ready for action. Polesitter 34 Cody Eickberg (Plymouth) led 2k Rick Kretschmann (Sheboygan Falls), a11 Robby Thiel (Appleton), 2jr Wyatt Block (Tigerton), and 22b Brandon Berth (Cascade). Eickberg used the position to run out to the early lead, while Berth and 66c Colten VanHierden moved quickly through the field, with VanHierden grabbing the lead on Lap 5 just before a caution flew for 96 Brian Konitzer (Sheboygan Falls) spinning in Turn 2. VanHierden led Eickberg, Kretschmann, 94 JJ Anderson (Pulaski) and Berth back to green. Anderson and Berth used the restart to vault up to 2nd and 3rd at the halfway point, with Eickberg, Kretschmann, 2 Todd Wiese, 20 Cody Schroeder (Manitowoc), Block, 25 Travis Arenz (Sheboygan), and 0p Hunter Parsons in the top 10. VanHierden continued his mastery of the wide, multi-grooved track to stretch his lead, and began lapping cars, while Anderson, Berth and Wiese tried to run him down. The points leader 63b Jesse Brey (Two Rivers) was battling deeper in the field with several drivers including 84 Bradley Ruh (Elkhart Lake), Thiel, and 53b Brian Reif (Mishicot). VanHierden dominated for the win and Hard Charger honors, followed by Berth, Wiese, Anderson, Eickberg, Arenz, Schroeder, Parsons, Kretschmann, and Block.

SPORT FOURS
Jeff Brendel (Sheboygan Falls) and 21 John Hitsman (Plymouth) sat on the front row for the Sport 4 feature, while 55 Brian Chiminatti (Manitowoc) and 3m Dave VanPay (Green Bay) rolled in behind them. Branden Goeser, in the 22jr, took the early lead but a caution pulled the field back together after a lap after Hitsman spun in Turn 4. Goeser held the lead on the restart with 07m Ben Meyerhofer (Menasha) moving in to challenge him for the lead. Meyerhofer took it away from Goeser on Lap 3, and they battled for the spot the entire race. Meyerhofer held Goeser off for the win with VanPay finishing 3rd.
