Coming into the weekend, we were sitting in 3rd place in points at Luxemburg Speedway, and in a tie for the lead at Thunderhill Raceway with Ryan LeMieux.
On Friday night, 24 sportmods checked in and I would start 5th out of 6 cars in the heat race. Running the low line, I was able to move up to the 2nd position and challenge Josh Lambert late in the race for the lead. With 1 lap to go, I was able to make the pass on the backstretch and pick up my 1st heat race win of the year at Luxemburg.
In the feature, the track was on the heavy and rough side for the sportmods. I started 10th and ran the high line without much success for the first half of the race. A caution flag flew, and with 7 laps remaining I continued to run the high line to try to move through the field. With 2 to go, I made the pass for 5th and closed on Mike Dauphinais quickly for the 4th spot. Coming to the checkers, I got the momentum off the corner to nab 4th place at the line.
With LeMieux unable to run the feature due to a broken rearend hub, our finish now put us into the 2nd spot in the standings.
On Saturday, a total of 15 cars were on hand at Thunderhill Raceway. Our heat races were a little on the soupy side, but I was able to finish in 2nd behind Rick LeMieux to secure my invert spot for the feature.
For the feature, the track we had to race on was very heavy as well. I was attempting to pass Bernie Reinhardt in the early going on the inside, but clipped an infield tire enough to bend my spindle. I was still able to eventually make the pass, but the handling on the car wasn’t the same for the rest of the race. I pushed up the track a few times which allowed Cody Rass to pass, but gathered it back up to pick up a few spots before the checkers flew. The top 6 cars were nose to tail at the end of the 20 uninterrupted laps, with me finishing in the 6th spot.
We now trail LeMieux by 3 points for the points lead at Thunderhill. With Luxemburg Speedway off this Friday due to the Kewaunee County Fair, we will likely only be racing at Thunderhill this Saturday night.
