With Mother Nature taking the checkered flag last Friday Night, Stock Car Racing on the challenging 1/3rd mile Tri-Oval at Eagle River Speedway returns this Friday Night. Rain cancelled races at tracks throughout Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula last weekend.

With the cancellations, many racers have had time to repair any damages they had to their cars from exciting racing earlier in the season.

“The start of the season has seen parity in all of the classes we run at Eagle River Speedway,” commented Ryan Glembin of Eagle River Speedway. “With this being our 40th year of racing at Eagle River Speedway, this has to be one of our best years when it comes to new drivers, and how well those new drivers are doing,” stated Glembin.

The biggest surprise to both track officials and the fans is the popularity of the Truck Class, and how close the finishes have been in the two WISSOTA Sanctioned classes, Street Stock and Midwest Modifieds. While the defending Class Champions, Jordan Kurtti and Jesse Aho, both from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula have won their respective features, the competion in those classes have been close for every feature thus far this year.

“This is setting the stage for an exciting Fireworks Special on Friday Night, July 4th. We’ll see this Friday Night if anyone can beat Jesse (Aho) and Jordan (Kurtti),” Glembin states.

The Fireworks Special on July 4th will include an increased purse from Auto Value Stores of Eagle River and Rhinelander. The night will also include a special for the Micro Sprint 600’s. The Micro Sprint 600’s hit speeds close to 90 miles per hour. The defending champion in that class is Rhinelander’s Jered Cech, however the father-son combo of Jake and Jerry Reif of Deerbrook have defeated Cech earlier this year.

The class that has had the biggest increase in drivers is the Pure Stock Class. With the defending Pure Stock Champion, Ryan Valeria of Eagle River, moving up to the WISSOTA Street Stocks, this class will see a new champion.

“It’s anyone’s guess who is going to win the Pure Stock Feature this Friday Night, and no one can predict who is going to win it on that big Fireworks Special night,” concluded Glembin.

Friday Night’s races will also include the 5 to 12 year olds racing in the Junior Sprint Class. The defending champion, Greenland, Michigan’s, Wyatt McIntyre was beat for the first time in two years a couple weeks ago. He was defeated by Shiocton’s Dylan Larson. McIntyre did come back to narrowly edge Larson in the Junior Sprint Feature.

Gates open a 5:00 pm CT, with Hot Laps to start at 7:00 pm CT.

Currently the driver to beat in that class is CJ Hedges, Jr., of Tomahawk.
