Mashl Masters IMCA Modifieds at The Creek
on June 8, 2014 at 10:21 am(Francis Creek, WI)- Mike Mashl looked like he never left the seat of his IMCA Modified the past couple of years. Mike Mashl dominated the field in his IMCA Modified Feature win. 118 cars entered the pits at 141 Speedway with a chance to win on Saturday night. Saturday night’s show saw only five cautions total in the six features.
Other Feature winners were John Heinz(IMCA Stockcars) Kevin Bethke(IMCA Sportmods) Kevin Naidl(Grand Nationals) Mike Conard(Street Stocks) and Matt Brehmer(4 Cylinders.)
Mike Mashl decided to buy another IMCA Modified, get back in the saddle and on Saturday night he figured it was a great night to get back into victory lane. Mashl Started out front and checked out like a grocery store. The battle was for second from that point on. Dean Maurer and Kyle Kudick raced the majority of the first half of the race for second allowing Jared Siefert to drive to the front. With everyone working the top of the track Siefert ran the bottom and knocked off a car a lap on the way to the second spot. The battle ensued behind Siefert for third which saw as many as eight cars swapping positions the rest of the main event keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Mashl Cruised to the win as he diced through lapped traffic late. Siefert never saw the caution he needed to make a run at Mashl and settled for second. Kyle Kudick won the race for third with Johnny Whitman fourth. Jay Matthias rounded out the top five. The feature event
was caution free.
Two-time defending champion John Heinz encountered problems last week allowing Rod Snellenberger to regain the point lead in the IMCA Stockcars. This week, Heinz was locked and loaded and left know doubt who the top racer was. Todd Augustian ran the birm up top as he lead the opening five laps of the feature. Heinz came through the field quickly and on lap six he drove passed Augustian and into the lead. Point leader Rod Snellenberger had to be a little more methodical getting up front which hurt him as the race went green flag to checkered flag. Heinz entered lapped traffic with four laps remaining but was never challenged. He won his second feature of the season in front of Snellenberger. Luke Lemmens had another strong run for the weekend in third. Augustian had a season best fourth place finish. Justin Jacobson made a late race leap to fifth.
A month ago he won his first IMCA Sportmod sanctioned feature at 141 Speedway. Number two came on Saturday night for Kevin Bethke. J.J. Tuyls opened up as the leader early pulling the field around the 1/3 mile. Bethke used a repeat line from a month ago; right up against the wall to catch Tuyls. Bethke ran away with the feature win and passed more cars as he dealt with lapped traffic late. Cody Schroeder and Tuyls had a good battle for second but heavy contact in turn four halfway through the race ended their hopes of a good run. The caution never flew as Bethke picked up his second win of the year. Andy Kleczka never saw the caution he wanted but delivered a runner-up finish ahead of Hunter Parsons. Greg Potts won a race long battle for fourth that saw him edge Brian Bruechert by a bumper at the line.
Charlie Sancinati was going to try to stay perfect in Grand National action coming into the weekend at 141. Problem for him was this week the defending champion Kevin Naidl returned to championship form. Naidl went from third to first on the opening lap and settled down low. Sancinati used a three-wide pass on Daniel Schumacher and Shane Long to grab the second position a few laps later. Two cautions allowed Sancinati a crack at the lead but Naidl stayed true on the bottom. Sancinati tried loosening up Naidl a few times on the last couple of laps but good sportsmanship was kept. Naidl picked up his first win of the season ahead of Sancinati. Daniel Schumacher maintained third. Point leader Shawn Schmitt had problems in his heat race and went from thirteenth to fourth in the feature. Ben Stumpf finished fifth.
The Street Stock Feature was a wild ride from start to finish that saw five different lap leaders. Kelly Rabe opened up the first lap as leader but Ryan Blank took control on lap two. Blank ran the top with the lead the next five laps until Andy Fuhrmann found bite on the bottom and put his racer into the lead. Fuhrmann quickly came under attack from Josh McDonald on top. McDonald cleared the field until a lap ten caution stalled the race. Mike Conard got the break he needed and dove into the top spot on the restart. Conard led until the final caution setting up a final dash for cash. Paul Diefenthaler went from fifth to second on the restart and stayed right on top of the track. Conard protected the bottom with Diefenthaler gaining on top. Diefenthaler had one last run on the last lap but fell short by ¾ of a car. Conard won his second feature of the season. Diefenthaler grabbed the point lead with his runner-up finish. Keith Kickbusch made
a mad dash from the consy to finish third. Fuhrmann and McDonald finished fourth and fifth.
Brandon Kaye led the opening laps of the 4 Cylinder feature. Matt Brehmer showed the field why he is on a mission this year as took the lead on lap three. Brehmer had one caution to deal with on lap ten. He pulled away from the field and won his fifth main event of the season. He also inherited the point lead with the win. Scott Johnson beat Kasey Gross for second. Tony Fletcher was fourth and Tyler Hungerford finished fifth in his first run of the season.
