Rains Wash Out ABC Raceway’s ‘Meet the Drivers’ Night

Ashland, WI, June 7 — Mother Nature posted another clean sweep of the racing action at the ABC Raceway.
The track’s popular Kids’ Meet the Drivers Night, presented by Little Caesar’s Pizza of Ashland, was cancelled by track officials due to Saturday’s day-long wet weather and unfavorable forecast.
Raceway officials hope to get their second race night of the season in next Saturday, as the Bad River Lodge, Casino & Convention Center will help present another special night in the season-long celebration of the Ashland-Bayfield County Racing Association’s 50th year of organizing stock car racing in the Chequamegon Bay area.

The June 14 program will include an invitation-only luncheon for the track’s many past champions beginning at 3 pm. A car show will be open to the public in the Raceway’s fan parking area from 3 until 5 pm, with stock cars from local racers as well as custom cars and hot rods on display. The Northern Vintage Stockcar Racers group, headquartered in west-central Wisconsin, will bring a good dozen or more restored race cars from yesteryear to display as part of the car show, and later they will compete on the track along with the five regularly-slated divisions of racing action.
During the race program’s intermission, the past champions will be introduced to the crowd and honored.
Fans and drivers with admission wristbands from the May 31 race program should hang on to them, as they will still be good for admission into either the June 14 or June 21 race program, provided neither event is cancelled due to weather.
The grandstand and pit gates will open at 5 pm on Saturday, with hot laps starting at 6:15 and racing to follow at around 7.
Admission tickets for adults (ages 13 & older) are only $10 for this special event, while youngsters ages 12 and under are welcome for free when accompanied by a paying adult. WBSZ’s “Race Night” radio program will provide live up-to-date track news and weather information from the Raceway on 93.3 FM, and online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm on Saturday.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
