Rice Lake WI, May 31 – Despite the rapidly deteriorating weather conditions, a solid field of race cars and a group of hearty race fans showed up at the Rice Lake Speedway Saturday night, mindful that most areas around the track were already receiving heavy rain.
After the track was rolled in and hot laps held, the first Pure Stock heat assembled and racing began. However, only two laps in the first heat were completed before it started to rain lightly, the track got slick and starter Troy Holder called for the caution flag. The cars made laps in the light rain, trying to save the track before they were sent to the pits. After waiting a few minutes, the rains started to pick up and it was clear that the racing program would have to wait for another night. The postponement was the first since the original season opener back on April 19th had to be scrapped.
Next up for the Rice Lake Speedway is a full program of racing in all classes next Saturday, June 7th and then just three days later, on Tuesday, June 10th it will be the third annual George Rhoe Classic for Super Stocks with the Supers racing for $2,000 to win and $200 just to start the forty four lap classic. Also on the card will be a full show for WISSOTA sanctioned modifieds, Midwest modifieds and street stocks along with the Rice Lake Pure Stocks. The speedway will then take Saturday, June 14th off.
