Budzo Racing Captures Feature Win at Thunderhill Raceway

After running three nights the prior weekend, we planned on taking this past Sunday off and concentrating on racing Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway and Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway.
On Friday, the heat race did not go as planned, sending us to our first semi-feature appearance since June of 2012 in the sportmod division. After a race-long battle with Andy Kleczka and JJ Andersen, I would finish 3rd to transfer to the feature.
In the feature, I was able to dart my way from my 18th starting position all the way up to 9th before the first caution flag would fly. The restarts proved to be hurtful, as each time I wound up in the line of cars that was moving in the wrong direction. I fell as far back as 12th, but was able to maneuver around Jeremy Cota at the finish line to wind up finishing 11th.
On Saturday, we looked to win the Nathan Bouche Memorial race for the second year in a row. After mechanical issues forced Cody Rass to exit our heat race, I was able to take control of the lead and led all of the laps to pick up our first heat race win of the season.
Starting 4th in the feature, I took advantage of a strong run off of turn 2 on the opening lap to squeeze between Jeff Lautenbach and Bernie Reinhardt to grab the lead. Several caution flags would fly, but each time I was able to hit my marks and pull away from the rest of the field. By the end, it was a night reminiscent of last year’s race, as I took the checkers for our first feature win of the season.
We knew we had our car heading in the right direction, and we’re very happy to get a win early in the season for our supporters. Next week, we’ll look to improve upon our finishes at Luxemburg, while returning to Thunderhill to carry the flag and look to put together another strong showing.
