Eagle Valley May 18, 2014
on May 19, 2014 at 8:32 amJIM FALLS, WI (May 18, 2014) – Racing at Eagle Valley Speedway was brought by JP Mechanical with comfortable weather in front of a nice crowd. All six classes were in action with the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, EVS Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets taking to the track for competition. Feature winners included Jesse Glenz, Shane Kisling, Nathan Thums, Danny Richards, George Richards, and Mark McQuiston.
In a replay of the week before, Matt Leer and Mike Anderson led the Modified feature to the green, this time with Anderson taking the point for the first several laps. Soon it began to appear Anderson, Leer, Jake Hartung, and Jesse Glenz, back in his own car after mechanical issues the night before in Rice Lake, were going to all become players in the outcome of the race. Anderson appeared to begin to lose speed as Hartung found his way to the lead but was challenged by Leer who took over the lead a few laps later. Glenz moved to second and tried to reel in the leader when just past halfway, a caution flew for a spinning Ronnie Rihn. Under the yellow, Anderson left the competition as mechanical problems ended his run in the front for the second consecutive night. On the restart, Glenz blasted into the lead and drove away from the field for a dominating victory. Leer, Hartung, Cody Cimfl, and Steve Hallquist rounded out the top five. Kevin Adams was in attendance but did not compete due to motor issues in the hot laps, mirroring his problems from the night before in Rice Lake and his last four races.
Troy Falkner and Jesse Redetzke made up the front row of the Super Stock feature but fourth starting Shane Kisling quickly drove to the lead and never looked back. Redetzke, fifth starting Curt Myers, and Tommy Richards were left to battle for the second position. At the halfway point, Myers had secured second and Richards retired from the race. Kisling finished with a commanding lead as well as Meyers having a large lead over third finishing Redetzke. Mark Stender and Don Muzzy finished in the top five.
Brad Seavers and Jake Smith, driving the 7P car tonight, paced the Midwest Modified feature but third starting Jacob Bleess led the first lap. Smith quickly battled back to the point to lead lap two. Nathan Thums closed on the leader and began to become a factor when a lap five caution reset the field. On the restart, fourth place Michael Truscott flexed his muscle and blasted to the lead on the low side. However, a caution flag flew before the completion of the lap and that start was null. On the second restart, Smith maintained his lead and two laps later, Thums found his way past to the point. He went on to win his first Eagle Valley feature. Behind him, a terrific war was waged for second as the position was swapped several times in the last few laps and a near photo finish found Smith finishing second over Truscott. Shane Halopka and Bleess closed out the top five.
Jake Hanson and Danny Richards showed the way to the green in the Street Stock feature with Richards securing the early lead. Third starting Cody Kummer found the lead on lap two and Adam Soltis and Mike Knudtson joined the fray. Soon a four car fight found the drivers two wide and two deep so closely it appeared you could toss a blanket over them. After several laps of amazingly close racing, Richards secured the point, followed by Kummer, Knudtson and Soltis. Once again, Street Stock rookie Jake Hanson finished with another top five.
The Pure Stock feature had George Richards and Todd Roshell in the front row with Richards finding the lead and never looking back. Roshell found himself in a battle with Pat Smith which ended with Smith crashing hard into the front stretch wall. The restart left three remaining cars as rookie Nicholas Hazelton Perry finishing a distant third.
The Hornet feature came to the green led by Jay Welk and Mark McQuiston as McQuiston drove to the lead and was chased by Scott Westaby. Although Westaby remained relatively close, McQuiston went on to win followed by Westaby, Kasey Gross, Welk, and Anthony White.
