EWSC Opening Night presented by triumphs over Mother Nature
Friday, May 16th 2014, Manitowoc WI. – After two false starts, EWSC Opening Night presented by Monster Energy Drink finally kicked off the 2014 season. Jens, Reinbold, & Pfeffer Family Funeral Services and Joel Jens Racing sponsored the evenings trophies handed out to the feature winners. The weather was cool, but the drivers put on a fantastic evening for those in attendance.
GRAND NATIONALS
The first Main event of 2014 rolled out with 34 Steven Weber (Plymouth) and 1s Charlie Sancinati (West Allis) fronting the field. Weber took control with the 7s Tim Simon (Fon du Lac) jumping into second in front of Sancinati, 6 Richard Hed (Plymouth), 7 Brian Gilles (Plymouth), and 42 Nick Strobbe (Milwaukee). Simon and Sancinati swapped positions several times until Lap 5 when Simon made his way around Weber to take the lead. On Lap 10 Strobbe cruised into the runner up spot, while 98n Kevin Naidl (Cato), 37 Ryan Minster (Sheboygan), and 98s Tom Schneider (Chilton) moved closer to the top 5 from deeper in the field. Lapped traffic came into play as Strobbe moved to the point on Lap 14 and Minster passed Hed to move into the top 5. Strobbe cruised to the checkers, followed by Simon, Sancinati, Minster, Gilles, Schneider, Hed, Naidl, 8x Brad Juckem (Chilton) and Weber in a caution free race. Strobbe and Minster shared Hard Charger honors picking up 6 positions each.

BAILEGH INDUSTRIAL LATE MODELS
The Baileigh Late Model Feature was next up, with 98 Tom Naeyaert (Shawano) and 79 Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) pacing the field. Naeyaert jumped into the lead, but Schmidt overtook him on Lap 2 with 74m Mitch McGrath (Waukesha), 3 Brent Swedberg (Shawano) and 7b Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah) rounding out the top 5. The leaders ran into lapped traffic at Lap 10 with Schmidt still out front while rookie contender 19 Eric Van Iten (Green Bay) battled Swedberg for 5th. At 5 laps to go, Schmidt was padding his lead, leaving the rest of the field to battle it out. After 25 laps of caution free racing, Schmidt rolled into Victory Lane with Naeyaert, McGrath, Buhler, Swedberg, Van Iten, 70 Todd Jensema (Sheboygan Falls), 97 Justin Schmidt (Cleveland), 6 Tony Peterson (Big Bend), and 18 Nick Cochart (Casco) completing the top 10. Passing 4 cars, Hard Charger went to Justin Schmidt.

DEFAUT AUTO SPORTMODS
Twenty three Defaut Auto Sportmods took the green for the feature, with 20 Cody Schroeder (Manitowoc) and 53b Brian Reif (Mishicot) leading them into Turn 1. Reif led the thundering herd out of Turn 4 to take the lead after 1 lap followed by a11 Robby Thiel (Appleton), and Schroeder. Thiel moved around Reif for the lead a lap later, while 66c Colten VanHierden (Beaver Dam) and 30 Tracy Wassenberg (Shawano) moved up quickly from deep in the starting order. The first yellow of the main events was displayed on Lap 7 for a spin by 103 Brekken Kleinschmidt (North Fon du Lac). Thiel led the field to the restart, with Reif, Schroeder, Wassenberg, and 22b Brandon Berth (Cascade) in his tracks. Schroeder, Berth, and VanHierden all made passes on Reif and Wassenberg, pushing Wassenberg back into 6th. Yellow was displayed again on Lap 10 for an incident between Kleinschmidt and 53 Gary Glander (Sheboygan Falls), with Kleinschmidt sent to the trailer for the evening. Thiel led the pack back to green, while Schroeder, Berth, VanHierden, and Reif tried to reel him in. Caution slowed the field again on Lap 13 as 34 Cody Eickberg (Plymouth) and 2k Rick Kretschmann (Sheboygan Falls) were involved in an incident in Turn 2. Eickberg was too damaged to continue, while Glander also retired his ride for the evening. Thiel brought the group under green one more time, but was run down by Wassenberg for the lead a lap later as Schroeder and Berth slid back a few positions. Berth slid out of the top 5 as 63b Jesse Brey (Two Rivers) made his way around him, and 09 Kelsey “Hollywood” Hayes (Sturgeon Bay) along with X Chris “Budzo” Budzban (Luxemburg) moved in to battle Berth. The final caution flew on Lap 22 setting up a sprint to the finish, after the 2jr Wyatt Block (Tigerton) spun in Turn 2. Wassenberg, VanHierden, Thiel, Brey, Reif, and Berth took the green and raced off into Turn 1, with VanHierden and Thiel swapping spots several times in the last 3 laps. Wassenberg rolled across the stripe taking home the hardware, followed by VanHierden, Thiel, Reif, Brey, Berth, Hayes, Budzban, 55p Michael Plate (Valders) and Schroeder. Wassenberg garnered Hard Charger honors picking up 10 spots on the night.

The PPI 360 Sprints rolled to the green with 24 Scott Conger (Eagle) and 39s Randy Sippel (Elkhart Lake) holding down the front row. Sippel jumped to the early lead, but yellow flew after a single lap as 7y Mitchell Yurmanovich (Cascade) spun out in Turn 4. Sippel led 21h Tim Haddy (Waupan), Conger, and 15m Justin Miller (Plymouth) back to green. Making short work of both Conger and Miller, 21t TJ Luedke (Plymouth) moved into 3rd, while 4 Paul Pokorski (West Bend) slid into 4th. At the midway point it was still Sippel holding down the top spot, followed by Haddy, Luedke, Pokorski, and 99 Kyle Marten (Sheboygan Falls). With no further cautions, Sippel led the field to checkers with Haddy, Luedke, Pokorski, and Marten rounding out the top 5. Hard Charger honors to Luedke and Marten with 4 spots each.
