Whitman Masters IMCA Modifieds at 141 Speedway
(Francis Creek)- Fans were treated to feature races that saw four of the six features go caution free. Multiple features went down to the final laps to decide the winners. Feature winners included Johnny Whitman(IMCA Modifieds) Dustin Loberger(IMCA Stockcars) Brandon Long(IMCA Sportmods) Keith Kickbusch(Street Stocks) Shawn Schmitt(Grand Nationals) and Shaun Bangart(4 Cylinders)
R.M. VanPay seemed to have everyone in check during the IMCA Modified main event. VanPay would stay in charge until a duo would decide to put on a battle for the fans. With five laps remaining and everyone trying to run the bottom of the track; Johnny Whitman and Benji LaCrosse drove to the top of the track. Not wanting to settle for fourth and fifth the duo took a chance that paid off in the end. Whitman and LaCrosse seemed to hook up like a draft and move passed everyone and focus on VanPay. Whitman charged to the lead with LaCrosse in tow with three laps remaining. LaCrosse tried multiple times to dethrone Whitman but was denied after trying every way around the leader. Whitman won the race in front of LaCrosse to earn his first win of the season. VanPay came in third with a strong fourth place finish for Tony Wedelstadt. Jared Siefert finished fifth.
Greg Wichman opened up the IMCA Stockcar rock show as the front man. He led the opening three laps of the feature before giving way to Dustin Loberger. Loberger moved up front and started to put his distance on the field at the halfway point of the race. Luke Lemmens made his way to the runner-up position and would finish the race in a battle with Bret Koehler. Koehler who was racing his new car for the first time this season moved from his twelfth starting spot into a top three position. Rod Snellenberger and John Heinz would fight each other for a top four result. Loberger cruised to a clean sweep night with his feature and heat race wins. Lemmens bested Koehler at the line for second. Snellenberger took all Heinz had to offer to finish fourth.
J.J. Tuyls paced the field through a caution and the first few laps of the IMCA Sportmod feature. Tuyls would have heavy pressure from both Brandon Long and Greg Potts before too long. Tuyls would continue to lead until a three wide pass by both Potts and Long would end his reign. He would spin in turn one on the next lap bringing out the final caution. Long would stretch out his lead after the final caution on lap eight. Long would cruise to victory and earn his second feature win of the weekend. Potts had a solid second place run. Brian Bruechert finished in third with Andy Kleczka beating Ryan Lemieux to the line for fourth.
Andrew Melberg and Scott Boulanger showed the Street Stock feature around the track early in the event. Boulanger would move into the lead on lap three. He would lead through a lap six caution with Keith Kickbusch right behind. Kickbusch would stay on the bumper of Boulanger the next ten laps as they made their way into lapped traffic with seven laps remaining. Boulanger chose to go high and Kickbusch stayed low. Kickbusch chose the right one and passed Boulanger at the line with five laps remaining. Boulanger rode the back of Kickbusch the rest of the way and tried numerous times to make the pass. Kickbusch held him at bay to stay perfect on the weekend in feature wins. Paul Diefenthaler won a race long battle with Shawn Haydon to finish third. Last weeks winner Mike Conard rounded out the top five.
Shawn Schmitt decided to add his name to the early list of feature winners in the Grand National division. Schmitt lead every lap of the feature to pick up the win. Chad Ninmer was able to make a charge off the corners but never able to make a pass for the lead stick. Schmitt earned a clean sweep night after winning his heat race. Ninmer settled for second place points and money. Derek Schracth finished third in his first race at the speedway. Randy Rahn and Rex Karner finished in the top five.
Scott Johnson opened the 4 Cylinder feature as the leader for the opening two laps. Matt Brehmer moved into the top spot and looked to be in a groove until a mechanical failure would end his night and bring out a caution. Scott Johnson and Shaun Bangart waged a war over the waning laps with Bangart getting his first win of the season over Johnson. Brandon Goeser beat Adam Broehm for third. Louis Malluege finished fifth in his first run this year.
