Rice Lake WI, May 6 – It was announced this afternoon that the United States Modified Touring Series(USMTS) event scheduled for Thursday, May 8th at the Rice Lake Speedway has been canceled due to weather concerns.
Track owners Dave Adams and Mitch Hansen spoke on the phone with USMTS President Todd Staley on Tuesday and they jointly reached the decision that the event should be canceled at this time so as to avoid teams traveling to Wisconsin from long distances, only to have the race rained out. At press time, the weather forecast for Thursday showed an 80% chance of thunderstorms and possibly severe weather.
Originally scheduled to be a three night tour for the USMTS as the opening events of the Farm Boy BBQ Northern division, the event at Ogilvie Minnesota had been canceled earlier this week due to wet weather conditions that have not allowed them to even run a race yet this year and the USMTS was hesitant to travel North with the remaining two shows in jeopardy.
The USMTS and the Rice Lake Speedway are is discussions about rescheduling the event to a later date this Summer. Racing action will continue at Rice Lake on Saturday, May 10th with a program featuring WISSOTA sanctioned modifieds, super stocks, Midwest modifieds and street stocks along with the Rice Lake pure stocks and hornets. Race time is 6:30 p.m.
