I wanted to start my first segment out by introducing myself. My name is Brad Luepke, and I am the New Marketing and Promotions Manager at the Shawano Speedway. I have attended races here weekly for 35 years, and when the opportunity came up to take this position, I couldn’t pass it up. I have a connection with a lot of Drivers and Crews, and look forward to meeting the ones I do not know as of yet. I will work hard to make this Speedway the Place to be on Saturday Nights and look forward to meeting all of you.
A lot of things are planned for this season that hopefully will make it one of the best ever. We will, in 2014, have a weekly program, full of information. I know I still get a little nostalgic when I look back at the programs from the early 90’s and see the photos of Buckbee, Mitchell, and Ort. Our goal with this program, thanks to Rod Christensen, at Christensen Publishing, is not only bring you up to date stories, point standings, and Results but also to bring back that keepsake that a fan, both young and old, can look back 20 years from now, like I look back at the programs from the early 90’s.
We are loaded with Special nights this season. July 29th is The Sun Drop Shootout as the World of Outlaws take center stage, but this year we have added the IMCA Mods and IMCA Sport Mods to the show, without raising ticket prices. This gives the fans more bang for their buck. June 14th, Seubert Calf Ranches is sponsoring a $2000 to win Late Model Special. With a purse in excess of $15,000 and a few area tracks that run Late Models off that Night, should make this a can’t miss event. All divisions will run this night as well and will conclude with a 40 Lap Late Model Feature. The Following week, Hammond Farm and Greenhouse is sponsoring a $500 to win IMCA Stock Car Special. The purse for the Stock Cars that night will be over $4000. The best part, is for the June 14 and June 21 night, Admission will NOT be raised.
Fan Appreciation Night Returns on August 23 with adult admission being only $5.00. Charlie’s Country Store is sponsoring Ladies Night again on May 24th. The first 500 Ladies through the door get in Free. Racing for a Reason is July 12th and has become one of the biggest nights at the Speedway. With the support of the drivers and fans, $30,000 dollars has been raised in the 3 year history of this event. The Money raised goes to 2 local Charities benefitting Childhood Cancer Awareness. August 9, Cody Hudson Racing is sponsoring Autism Awareness night. This is the first year of this event, and should be another unique event at the Speedway, not to mention there is free live Music and a Free Corn Roast after the races that night. July 26, we will be honoring Cubby Lamberies and Jerry “Medina” Smith as they are inducted into the Shawano Speedway Hall of Fame.
I only touched on a few things that will be at the Speedway this season. I couldn’t finish without saying, Thank You to everyone who makes the Shawano Speedway a huge Success. To see the passion and energy is what makes me want to push harder to add to the history of this famed speedway. It is an honor and a privilege to serve you, the Greatest Fans and Drivers Anywhere. Here is to a great 2014 season, let’s make this one the best ever.
