Red Cedar Speedway Preps for 2014

Menomonie WI – Officials of the Red Cedar Racing Association, who operate the Red Cedar Speedway at the Dunn Co. Rec Park, are anxious to get the 2014 racing season under way. The only thing holding them back right now is the weather.

Having already cancelled the proposed opener on April 18th due to cold weather and wet grounds, track officials are hoping that by the 25th things will have warmed up enough to get racing started.
Currently, the big issue getting the season started is getting the water turned on to the facility, and Dunn County can’t do that until it warms up sufficiently so that the water pipes don’t break at night. Until it warms up, things are on hold.
That doesn’t mean however, that there has been inactivity behind the scenes. Association officials have been busy planning the season and lining up sponsors while setting special events.
WISSOTA sanctioned race classes dominate at the track with the late models, modifieds, super stocks, Midwest modifieds and street stocks all running under WISSOTA rules. The Red Cedar pure stocks also race every Friday night and the four cylinder hornet class will begin their season at the track on May 30th.
An exciting new event at the track this year will be the first ever appearance of the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) at Red Cedar with national driving stars in the modifieds taking on the best of the local and regional drivers. That event will be held on Thursday, August 14th and will be followed up by the Season Championships the following night. The regular season will conclude on August 22nd and the Punky Manor Challenge of Champions will conclude the race season on Friday and Saturday, September 19th and 20th.
The Dunn County Fair will feature two nights of racing action with an enduro slated for July 24th and Fair racing the following night, July 25th with both nights offering admission for only $5.
The AMSOIL Race of Champions qualifiers will be on August 8th, the late models will take off the nights of June 13th and August 1st and there will be no racing on July 4th.
All admission prices will remain the same for 2014. On opening night, the pits will open at 3 p.m. to expedite things, while the rest of the season will see pit gates opening at 4 p.m. Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m., the cutoff for racers will be 6:30 p.m. and the first race will take the green at 7 p.m.
Race fans and participants should check the speedway website at www.redcedarspeedway.com and their face page where the latest information relative to when the opening night will be will be posted. The track phone number is 715-235-6318.
