Ashland, WI — During the 2014 stock car racing season the ABC Raceway will celebrate its 50th season of continuous operation under the direction of the Ashland-Bayfield County Racing Association.
As one can imagine, during that long a period of time there have been a great many racers, track workers, and other fans, volunteers and supporters who have helped shape the Raceway into one of the Upper Midwest’s finest racing facilities.
With that in mind, the Raceway is now welcoming nominees for an inaugural group to be inducted into its newly-formed Hall of Fame.
“The club feels that the time to honor and pay tribute to the many great racers, track workers and fans who have been such as huge part of the success of our track is long overdue,” says Eric Erickson, who is heading up the Hall of Fame committee. “We need to recognize those folks who’ve done so much and worked so hard, and to have this coincide with the track’s 50th anniversary season is a great opportunity to get this done.”
Nominations are being accepted in three categories. Driver Achievement nominees are required to have been retired from active racing for at least five years, with emphasis on their accomplishments, impact and influence on racing primarily at the ABC Raceway as well as at other tracks.
Nominees for the Volunteers category are required to have contributed at least ten years to the ABC Raceway and to have brought significant positive contributions in their support and promotion of the facility.
Qualifying nominees for the Fans, Sponsors and Supporters category will include those recognized for their generous and contributions to the track and positive influence to the area racing community as a whole.
Nominations in each of the categories can be submitted by mail to the committee at ABC Raceway, c/o Hall of Fame, PO Box 362, Ashland, WI 54806, or by e-mail to [email protected]. A nomination form is available online at the track’s website,http://www.abcraceway.com/; the form must be completed and include two letters of recommendation in order for the nominee to be considered.
Nominations must be received by the committee no later than April 1, 2014, in order to be eligible for the inaugural class.
The club plans to construct a public display of the inductees’ achievements and contributions on the Raceway grounds, which will be expanded as the inductees from subsequent years are added.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website,http://www.abcraceway.com/.
