(McGrath earns BMT crown) by Chris Janda

(FRANCIS CREEK, WI) October 4 Big Money Jay Matthias of Green Bay stormed past Beaver Dam’s Eddie LeMay with just 6 laps to go and cruised to victory in the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Gandrud Chevrolet season finale during night number 1 of the 4th annual Creek Classic at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Friday night.

By virtue of his 23rd place finish, Neosho’s Mitch McGrath earned the BMT championship.

Juneaus Russ Reinwald started on the pole but did not start the feature because of mechanical woes. By Reinwald breaking that would hand over the lead to LeMay. Lemay received a still challenge from Vlies Custom Bodies/Victory Sign BMT rookie-of-the-year Brad Lautenbach of New Franken. Lautenbach pulled door-to-door on more than one occasion and was challenging for the lead for a balance of the contest. Lautenbach’s night would come to a sour end on lap 17. Lautenbach got collected with a car that spun, ending his night.

After the restart, LeMay still led with Jay Matthias given second. Matthias powered by LeMay coming out of turn two on lap 19 to take the lead and LeMay falling back to fourth but after RM VanPay of Denmark broke in second LeMay moved up to third where he finished. Shawn Kilgore charged up to the second spot where he finished. Brad Rohloff of Pulaski worked his way through the pack from 18th to fourth. Eric VanIten used the BMT provisional to get a spot in the 24 car starting feature and raced his way from 24th all the way up to fifth. Van Iten would also earn the Wild Inc. hard charger award.

Preliminary races were run in all the other divisions, including the Iron Horse Sales & Service Badger Stock Tour presented by Kick Ass Drive Train and Iron Horse Recycling.

Racing gets underway Saturday at 3 p.m. For more information check 141speedway.com. The track phone is (920) 863 3377.
