It was a night that two drivers made their first stop at the Auto Value Victory Lane at Eagle River Speedway. First year WISSOTA Street Stock driver, Ryan Glembin of Eagle River had come close at three of the WISSOTA Street Stock Features this year. At two of those races he took a second to one of the top WISSOTA Street Stock drivers, Jordan Kurtti of Bruce Crossing, Michigan.

However on Sunday Night, Glembin held off Kurtti for his first WISSOTA Street Stock Feature win.

“My dad and I have been watching what Kurtti, (Todd) Brass, and others have been doing in both car set-up and racing. Tonight the car was handling perfect!” commented Glembin from Victory Lane.

Glembin ran an outside line for much of the race, while Kurtti tried to get on his bumper by running a tight line on the inside.

“I kept a close watch to see what lead I had, and if I would need to go to a different line. Fortunately, I didn’t have too,” stated Glembin.

CJ Hedges of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, made his debut race this year at Eagle River Speedway a memorable one. Hedges defeated long-time Eagle River Speedway racer, Don Scharf. Scharf went into the night with a 2 point lead over Rhinelander’s Jason Melton, and a 3 point lead over the defending Pure Stock Point Champion, Ryan Valeria of Eagle River. Hedges held all of the top drivers off in his first race at the one-third mile tri-oval to win the Pure Stock Feature.

While Glembin and Hedges were new faces in Victory Lane, all the other Feature winners were drivers that are very familiar to winning Features.

Tomahawk’s Jeff Klopstein, Junior, got revenge on the defending track WISSOTA Midwest Mod Point Champion, Jesse Aho. Aho of Twin Lakes, Michigan, held off Klopstein by inches at the previous Tuesday Night race. On Sunday Night, Klopstein won his 3rd Feature of the year, in a battle with Phelps, Wisconsin’s Jerry Grasse. The WISSOTA Midwest Modified race saw numerous new drivers take on the challenging track. One of which was long-time WISSOTA Street Stock Champion, John Kallas of Hurley, joined the following Wisconsin drivers in competing. This includes Lac Du Flambeau’s John Johnson, Junior and Rhinelander’s Dan Melton. New drivers coming from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula included, Larry Gasprini of Iron River, Bessemer’s Bill Muhlig, and Bruce Crossing’s Cory Dickman.

Eagle River’s Jake Reif snapped Deerbrook, Wisconsin’s Bob Hicks winning streak in the Micro Sprint 600 Feature. Reif, Jered Cech of Rhinelander, and Hicks all hit speeds close to 90 MPH in the feature.

Ty Springer of Eagle River had a stiff challenge from Greenland, Michigan’s, Wyatt McIntyre for much of the Junior Sprint Feature. In the end, Springer held on to keep his winning streak that dates back to the middle part of the 2012 season going.

Manitowish Waters Phil Malouf won another Sport 4 feature.

Eagle River Speedway will host a stop on the Badger Modified Tour on Thursday Night, July 4th. The special 4th of July Thursday Night race will also include a stop on the Kim Parson’s Memorial Tour for the WISSOTA Street Stocks. The night will include racing in the Pure Stock, Micro Sprint 600, and Junior Sprint classes. After the races, Harry’s Fireworks will light up the sky with a Fireworks show. Racing will start at 7:00 pm Central Time.
