Shawano, WI (Aug. 18, 2012) – On a night in which race fans and drivers came together to fight against childhood cancer on “Racing for a Reason” Night, Nick Anvelink won his second straight WISSOTA Late Model feature, and fifth overall this year at Shawano Speedway. Jason Czarapata won his fourth IMCA Modified feature, while his cousin Brandon Czarapata won his sixth IMCA Stock Car feature. Cody Hudson won his fifth IMCA Northern SportMod feature, while Joel Bennett won his 11th FASTRAK Late Model feature.

Aaron Holiday jumped out to the quick lead over Mark Rose, Brett Swedberg, Justin Hirt and Ron Berna in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Berna immediately began making his way through the top five moving up to the third spot on lap three. Swedberg pulled up to Holiday’s rear bumper on lap five, while Nick Anvelink was making his way to the front racing in the low groove.

Swedberg took the lead on lap eight, but held it for only one lap, as Anvelink disposed of Swedberg on the next lap to take over the top spot. Once in the lead, Anvelink pulled out to a slight light with Berna beginning to pressure Swedberg for the runner-up spot. Berna’s pressure paid off with three laps remaining as he took the spot from Swedberg. It was all Anvelink, though, as he raced to the victory over Berna, Swedberg, Hirt and Troy Springborn.

In the IMCA Modified feature, Matt Oreskovich took the early lead over John Berna, Mark Weisnicht, Jerry Muenster and John Peters. Muester moved to third on the next lap and to second on lap five. Berna fought back to reclaim the position, only to have Muenster once again get by him for the second spot. Muenster began running down Oreskovich, while Jason Czarapata was making his way through the field.

Just past the midway point of the race, Czarapata ducked underneath Oreskovich for the lead. The race was slowed by a caution with six laps remaining, but there was no slowing Czarapata as he cruised to the win over Oreskovich, Berna, Jerry Muenster and Eddie Muenster.

Brandon Czarapata took the lead from Harley Simon on the fourth lap of the IMCA Stock Car feature. A lap six restart saw Czarapata maintain his lead with Simon, Brian Ambrosius, Nate Michonski and Mitch Stankowski following. Czarapata pulled out to a small lead with Ambrosius moving to second and Stankowski to fourth. Czarapata led the rest of the way to take the victory over Ambrosius, Stankowski, Tom Riehl and Simon.

Aaron Bennett took the lead from Adam Janke on the third lap of the FASTRAK Late Model feature. Once in the lead he pulled away to a slight lead. Jeff Wickershiem, Jeff Curtin and Joel Bennett caught Aaron Bennett seven laps into the race and the four drivers raced in a side-by-side pack for a couple of laps.

Midway through the race, Joel Bennett took the lead from his brother and never looked back as he won his 11th feature of the year. Curtin, Aaron Bennett, Jeff Wickershiem and Aaron Wickershiem rounded out the top five.

Greg Magsam led the first nine laps of the IMCA Northern SportMod feature only to have a caution come out to bunch up the field. Cody Hudson took to the high-side on the restart to grab the lead with Tracy Wassenberg following. Wassenberg remained glued to Hudson’s rear bumper for the rest of the race but couldn’t make the pass for the lead. Hudson took the victory with Wassenberg, Zeke Bishofberger, Joey Taycher and Jordan Bakholtz following.

There are two nights of racing remaining at Shawano Speedway – Saturday, Aug. 25 and Sept. 1. The racing action getting underway at 6:30 p.m. each week.
