Berna and LaCrosse Cash in at Luxemburg Speedway

(Luxemburg, WI)- The “Rocket” Ron Berna collected a cool $2,000 after a late race pass netted him the win. Berna beat Nick Anvelink to the checkers.
Benji LaCrosse secured the victory and a $1000 payday with his Modified win over Sean Jerovetz. Wes Salentine earned his first victory of the season in the IMCA Hobby Stock Feature.
With the virtue of his pole dash win; Pete Parker started up front and looked fast early in the Late Model feature. Parker would set the pace throughout the early stages of the feature with Nick Anvelink working his way to second by lap 15. Anvelink would start closing the gap and make it to the back bumper of Parker as they entered heavy lapped traffic. With 10 laps to go, Parker made contact with a lapped car and spun. This would prove to be a pivotal point in the race. Parker was given his spot back but with a heavy tire rub as they resumed the race. With 6 laps to go, Ron Berna and Nick Anvelink made there way passed Parker as mechanical woes would sideline him. Berna cruised away from Anvelink over the final laps and picked up the victory and a $2000 payday. Anvelink ran second most of the race and finished there at the checkers. Tom Naeyaert, Paul Parker, and Russ Scheffler rounded out the top 5. In heat race action, Troy Springborn made contact with several cars and ended up on his roof. Springborn was fine but his racer sustained night ending damage.
Sean Jerovetz jumped out front in the Modified feature event. The point leader of the division seemed to have everything in hand working the bottom of the track. Jay Matthias and Shawn Kilgore would run for second early in the feature with Kilgore securing the spot on top. Kilgore would continue to run up on the top birm and eventually work to the outside of Jerovetz on lap 20. With 7 laps to go, Jerovetz and Kilgore entered lapped traffic. Kilgore would find bad luck and make contact with one of the lapped cars. Jerovetz would resume out front until the final caution of the race setup a 3 lap dash. Benji LaCrosse used the restart to shoot to the outside of Jerovetz. Jerovetz still had the lead at the white flag with LaCrosse to his outside. LaCrosse would advance off turn two and the duo would be heads up heading into the final corners. LaCrosse would find the bite he needed up top and drive to victory lane in front of Jerovetz. LaCrosse would only lead 1 lap in picking up the $1000 win. Matthias finished third with Kilgore limping to a fourth place finish. Mitch McGrath nabbed fifth.
Wes Salentine and Scott Boulanger started up front and finished there in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Salentine would move out front with Boulanger working every lane possible to get passed. Rob Waechter Jr would run to third and start tracking down the front two. Waechter would come up short and finish third as he finally caught them at the checkers. Salentine held off Boulanger to win his first feature of 2012. Derek Moede picked up 1 point on Tom Brumlic as they finished fourth and fifth. The race went caution free.
