Shawano,WI,7/21/12—Joel Bennett returned to a familiar place Saturday night in victory lane. He was joined there by Gordie Seegert Jr. and Marcus Yarie for the first time this season. Dan Michonski picked up his fifth win as his engine expired, and Cody Hudson won his forth”A” Main event.
Wayne Block sped into the early lead in the Fastrak Late Model feature and quickly put some distance between himself and the rest of the field. A caution would wipe away Block’s lead and put Joel Bennett right on his tail for the restart. Bennett put the pass on Block and moved into first. Jeff Curtin also got around Block to move into second. Bennett was able to fend off Curtin to the finish for his ninth feature win of the year. Block held on to finish third.
Jason Guyette paced the first few laps of the IMCA Sport Mod feature as Jason Jach, Cody Hudson, and Tracy Wassenberg worked their way through traffic. Jach used the inside line to pass Guyette for the lead. Hudson and Wassenberg both raced their way around Jach. The pair continued to dual at the front of the pack before Hudson eventually took the lead for good from Wassenberg. Hudson scored the victory, his forth on the year, trailed by Wassenberg, Jake Solin, Jach, and Barkholtz.
Gordie Seegert Jr. shot from his outside front row starting position to the lead on lap one and never looked back. Nick Anvelink was able to pull even with Seegert in the final few laps, but Seegert was up to the challenge as went on to pick up his first win of the year. Troy Springborn finished third, Justin Ritchie was forth, and Doug Blashe rounded out the top five.
Picking up right where he left off two weeks ago John Berna led the opening stages of the IMCA Modified feature. He was quickly challenged by Marcus Yarie and Jason Czarapata though. After numerous attempts to pass Berna on the inside Yarie eventually took over the top spot. Yarie was able to hold off Czarapata to score win number one on the season. Eddie Muenster finished the race in third. Eric Scribner raced through the pack to finish fourth after starting eighteenth.
Mike Schmidt led the opening lap of the IMCA Stock Car feature before giving way to Brandon Czarapata on lap two. Czarapata continued to lead while Dan Michonski worked through traffic from his tenth place starting position to move into second by the forth lap. It looked as though it be a two car battle at the front of the field between Czarapata and Michonski until mechanical gremlins took Czarapata out of the race on lap ten handing the lead to Michonski. Michonski’s motor let loose as he took the checkered flag, but the win was his as he cruised to victory number five over Schmidt, Mitch Stankowski, and Brian Ambrosius.
Racing will continue Saturday, July 28th, with racing action getting underway at 6:30 p.m. It will be Hall Of Fame night as Cliff Miller and Jerry Rhode will be inducted into the tracks Hall Of Fame. For more information about the track visit www.shawanospeedway.net.
