BADGER MOD TOUR DODGE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS POST RACE NOTEBOOK
on July 22, 2012 at 3:07 PM(Green Bay, WI) July 22 – A capacity crowd witnessed a caution free, 25 lap race with Neosho, Wisconsin’s Mitch McGrath winning his first ever event in the Custom Windows Plus Badger Mod Tour presented by Floors By Design & Directional Drilling Services at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam Friday, July 20.
The second generation driver competed the night before at Knoxville (IA) Raceway, where he made the show at the Harris Clash and wound up placing 13th. “We drove all night to get back and rolled into the driveway at 7:20 a.m.” said a bleary eyed McGrath in victory lane.“The crew worked real hard to make it out here for this show tonight.”
Eventual second place finisher Tim Lemirande of Middleton, who was closing in fast on McGrath in the final laps, wound up being disqualified during post race inspection, which handed the runnerup spot to hometown driver Craig Priewe. Priewe’s a 1996 track champion at Dodge County Fairgrounds. “It’s a shame they don’t race here anymore weekly because this track truly is home for me,” said Priewe. Like Priewe, McGrath runs a Wild Inc. chassis built out of their shop.
Longtime Midwestern modified veteran Brian Mullen of Seymour was bumped up to third, scoring his first podium finish in the series. “Those guys were real fast out here tonight, and it was tough to catch them out here,” said Mullen. “We’ve been struggling a little bit with the handling of this car, but we’ll get it figured out.”
HARD LUCK – Tough luck was brought to the top two point drivers heading into Dodge County – Seymour’s Mike Mullen and Green Bay’s Benji LaCrosse. Both dropped out of their heats with mechanical woes. Mullen wound up earning one of two series points provisionals awarded, and wound up dropping out after taking the green. LaCrosse never made it back out to take a provisional.
DOUBLE WRECKERS, TWICE – Kaukauna’s Shawn Frelich wound up going off the track not once, but twice. Once in his heat, and also in his B main. “We wrecked stuff on both ends of the car,” said Frelich, who was making his first BMT race of the year.
HELPING HAND – Oconto Falls “Dancin’ Lance” Arneson had low oil pressure in the powerplant of his #75 car after his heat. “I’m very thankful Brian Joski loaned me his car and was able to run the feature.” Arneson wound up 14th in the A main.
POINTS SHAKE UP – A major shakeup occurred in the BMT points after Dodge County, with Brian Mullen leading the way with a 12.5 point lead over Mitch McGrath. Juneau’s Russ Reinwald sits third 14 points out of first, with Horicon’s Jeremy Christians 4th 16 points out. Luxemburg’s Jared Siefert sits fifth 25.5 points out of first.
Antioch, Illinois’ Scott Kuxhouse sits on the “Top 20 in the money” point standings bubble in the 20th spot. To date 80 different drivers have earned points in BMT competition.
NEXT UP – The next show on the Tour will be Sunday night, July 29 at Beaver Dam Raceway. This event was rained out back on Memorial Day weekend. 56 BMT modifieds checked in to do battle before the rains came. Racing gets underway at 4 p.m. For more information check badgermodtour.com.
