(Francis Creek, WI) August 13 – Neosho’s Mitch McGrath passed Seymour’s Jamie Schmidt on lap four and carefully danced through lapped cars to win the Modified feature on Smet Construction night at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek Saturday.
A 125 total of drivers turned out to race, including 20 Modifieds, 19 Stock Cars, 20 Brian Peterson Builders Grand Nationals, 20 Sportmods, 29 Street stocks and 18 Sport fours.
McGrath started fourth on the grid, and used the high groove to motor around Schmidt on the high groove. McGrath had built up a near full straightaway lead and with five laps to go, McGrath skillfully weaved his way through lapped cars to collect his second win of the year here. Schmidt took home second place money, followed by Mishicot’s Kyle Kudick, Green Bay’s Kyle Lentz and Sobieski’s Sean Jerovetz.
Manitowoc’s Logan Rhode captured his third Brian Peterson Builders Grand National feature win. Rhode swapped the lead for much of the contest with Two Rivers Dave Gauger Jr. Rhode assumed command of the lead with five laps to go and never looked back. Winneconne’s Tim Doehling took second, followed by defending track champion TJ Smith of Menasha, Brillion’s Alex Stumpf and Whitelaw’s Kevin Naidl.
Greenleaf’s Jesse Colwell captured his second straight Stock Car feature, fending off brother Jamie Cowell at the checkers. Green Bay’s Rick Dix posted his best finish of the year with a third, followed by Luxemburg’s Tyler Derenne and Mike Gilson of Greenleaf.
Francis Creek’s Kraig Koehler picked up the street stock feature win. Greenville’s Shawn Hayden took second, followed by Stockbridge’s Adam Broehm, Mayville’s Trevor Schmidt and Greenville’s Danny Gracyalny. Gracyalny padded his points lead and did the hard way, pitting twice during the caution filled race.
Abram’s Scooter Boyea passed Abram’s rookie Jessi Ness on lap eight and went on to win his first Sportmod feature of the year. Suamico’s Josh Long took second, followed by Oconto’s Rob Charapada, Green Bay’s Troy Jerovetz and Suamico’s Brandon Long.
Two Rivers Brandon Tegen beat out points leader Ralph Liegois Jr. of Oconto by mere inches in a photo finish to win his first sport four feature of the year.
The Manitowoc Motor Machining $100 product gift certificate was awarded to Jerry Winkler by virtue of his 7th place finish in the Street Stock feature. Troy Jerovetz won the hard charger award in the sportmod feature by charging from 18th to finish 4th. Luxemburg’s Siefert won the hard charger award in the Modifieds moving from 15th to 7th. Both drivers earned a set of Wildwood Brake Pads through Behling Circle Track Equipment in Butler.
Racing action continues next Saturday night August 20 at 6 p.m. on Floors By Design Night. There will be Powder Puff races for the ladies as well as a pair of motor giveaways courtesy of 141 Speedway and Manitowoc Motor and Machining for drivers in the Modified and Stock car classes who took part in 75 percent or more of the track’s weekly races.
