Headed out to Seymour Speedway, the weather was beautiful! After wandering around the pits and talking with a few drivers and crews, I made my way up the the pit stands to watch the races. The track had some choppy spots early in the night, but the crew came out and graded the track some during the intermission. With 21 sport mods, 19 street stocks, 21 stocks, 14 sport fours, and two late arrivals to total up 14 mods, it would be an early night. The races started past 6:15, and ended prior to 9:00, leaving time for fans to visit the pits and still get home early enough to get a good night’s sleep.
The sport mod feature went well, with the 09 Bethke and 32 Guyette battling for the lead, with a good distance from the rest of the field. A mid race caution bunched the pack, helping 01 Jerovetz and 21l Lautenbach move up, while Bethke moved back. Guyette went on to take the win. 32, 01, 21l, 09
Street stock feature began with the 08 Ashcraft taking the early lead and the 2 Kasperek working to take that away. With the 84 Drawanek bringing out the yellow about halfway through the race, it tightened up an already packed field. With Kasperek in the lead, it was up to Ashcraft and Winkler to battle for 2nd, with the 99 Gracyalny closing in for fourth. As the cars spread out some, Drawanek did everything he could to make his way back up the field, eventually finishing 6th, coming from last after being called for the only caution of the race. 2, 2w, 08, 99
Mod feature started with the 19x of Hoerning and X of Wedelstadt in the front, with the 99 of Lentz slipping in behind the X within a couple laps, and reeling him in lap after lap. After a few laps, the 42 of Schmidt and 56c of Czarapata got together coming out of four, bringing out the caution flags and restacking the field. After the restart, Lentz fought hard to find the best line to pass Wedelstadt. With the top being the best line, Lentz rode tight to the bumper of the X, trying hard to get the pass wherever he could, passing Mike at one point, then succumbing to Mike again. With a last ditch effort, Kyle gave it all he had, and pulled up side by side with Mike for the checker, missing the win with his front bumper even with Mike’s front tire. The 56c would come back from pitting on the caution and finish 3rd with the X of Mike Wedelstadt picking up his 100th feature win. X, 99, 56c, 74
Stock feature. The 26n and 999 would start the race off, with the 26n pushing the 999 up to the wall, opening a hole for the 15x to use and take the lead on the first lap. An early caution would pull the 15x back to the rest of the field, with the 5 and 86 behind in row two. The restart would only be good for a lap, with the 21m having problems, and needing a push from the track exit. That lap was enough for the 21x to move into 3rd, and the 10s into 5th. With the field lined up again, the 15x would hold the lead, the 21x and 10s in tow, while the 55w would work on the 5 for 4th, and then using the bottom line to battle with the 21s for 2nd. By this time, the 15x would have the race tied up. 15x, 55w, 21x, 10s
Got word later that the 26n came in to shop, however he was a lap down on the finish, and the claim was deemed invalid.
Sport fours: the 13 and 14 would start the race off, the 13 taking the early lead until the 18 found the turn 4 wall. After the restart, we would get another lap but the 35 thought the track exit was a good place to park. Another restart later, and the 77 would run side by side with the 13, while the 13 would do his best to hold on to his lead. But in the end, the 77 would take over with two laps to go. 77, 13r, 14x, 45
For the night, it was pretty good racing. The mod race was a great race, and surprisingly, the sport four race was no disappointment either. The 77 and 13r raced inches from each other, both fighting hard to take the win, with only an error giving it away. Good job to the drivers for putting on a good show, and the Seymour Speedway for providing a good track to race on. Until next weekend, stay dirty!
