In The Dirt 8-12-11

It was a cool and drizzly night…..

So we watched the radar in anticipation. Race? Or park the cars? Let’s race, why not. With Langlade County Speedway, Central Wisconsin Speedway cancelled, and Amsoil Speedway cancelled. That left us, at least in the local area, with the Speedzone, EWSC, and Luxemburg Speedway. While everybody made their plans, the tracks were being prepped for some racing. Then around 6:00 came the news that Speedzone had just gotten rained out, and some of the drivers were headed off to Luxemburg. The news came shortly afterwards that Manitowoc’s EWSC had cancelled as well.

The rainouts didn’t bring too many cars, I think four or five pulled in late, and at least one of them was a regular driver at Luxemburg Speedway up until a week ago. As for racing tonight, I managed to catch the mod and sport mod heats, some of the stock feature, and then the mod and sport mod features. The latter of the two were watched from turns one and two, through the lens of my camera. Oops, did I say my camera? Yea, I was taking pictures, which apparently is frowned upon by only one person, despite that I use them to promote the track that pays him to be there. Of the many others, they watched me do so, and really didn’t care.

Back to the racing. What I saw was some pretty good racing, but I’m not all that sure about one of the calls. Two mods locked together in turn four, causing a caution on a restart. If you cause a caution, don’t you go to the back? Missed calls, bad calls, at least that’s consistent, right. Oh yea, it happens at every track, not just this one.

Tonight was Combine Demo Derby night at Luxemburg Speedway. I’m not really sure what I expected, but I guess I expected more carnage. Don’t get me wrong, if you haven’t seen two combines ram each other head-on, you have to at least try it. I’d post pictures, but it was after I snapped a picture of the first combine to roll out, that I was told to put my camera away.

Thanks to Rick Goral and his track crew though. They did what they needed to do to put on a full show, regardless of the almost steady drizzle. They was consistent movement on the track to keep the water from building up, so the track didn’t get greasy. Props guys, keep up the good work!

I’d like to finish with a couple of side notes. Benji LaCrosse, Brian Mullen, and Mike Mashl took the trip Thursday to Britt, Iowa for the Night of 1000 Stars race. I stand by my words that Wisconsin breeds champions, and I think at some point, Iown is going to put up a fence to keep us out. LaCrosse came back with the win, and from what I hear, he schooled them. Congrats Benji!

Next, Wi Dirt Racin and Floors By Design’s “Crocodile” Kyle Lentz took a trip up north to Norway Speedway in Michigan. The purpose of the trip was to race. On asphalt. Turns out there was no racing, but he did get to put on about 60-70 laps. With a good set of tires he would have had the lap times to make it to the feature. He said it was different, but yet it was what he expected. Definitely fun. There’s a possibility that he’ll be going back up next week, with hopes to race this time. He will still be seen racing on dirt locally, but will this be the start of something new to add to the resume? Only time will tell.

Winners tonight from Luxemburg: Marcus Yarie picks up his first Luxemburg mod win. Devin Snellenberger takes the win in stocks, Tyler Hackett picks up the sport mod win, Doug Engelking scored his first IMCA hobby stock feature win, and Ralph Liegois Jr. gets the sport four win.

Shout out to Chris Budzban on a great night for him, with a heat win, and a fourth place finish in the feature.

I leave you with combine carnage, stay dirty!

Sorry about the dark photo, but I had to turn off the flash to hide the camera, even though there was twenty other people taking pictures and at least two recording video, none of which were to promote the track like I do.
