Langlade County Speedway in Antigo, WI is rumored to be shutting down. Yesterday I had some time to talk with somebody closely tied with the track, and I can assure you, that is not the case. LCS has a full schedule, all you have to do is click on the “Schedule” link at langladespeedway.org, and you can view it yourself. The Antigo Stock Car, Inc board of directors is doing everything they can to bring the car counts back up, and bring the fans back to the stands. The increased payouts over the past few races are a good sign of that effort. I’ve heard that some of the checks didn’t clear immediately after the last race, but I’ve heard from more people that they have. The money was deposited. Instead of blasting them all over the internet, maybe call the ASCI, and ask them what the problem was. Also, if you still haven’t been paid from last season, then contact them. As a matter of fact, on the langladespeedway.org website, it says:
If you were a driver in ’10 that did not receive pay during the 2010 race season and you were supposed to be paid, please let Missy Gorham, Treasurer, know by email at [email protected].
Look, we are seeing low counts at all of the tracks around the state. The stands aren’t filling, and neither are the pits. But if people are going to continue slamming tracks, the counts are only going to go down. The economy isn’t helping, and the rising cost of fuels and parts doesn’t help any either. I’m here to continue promoting dirt track racing, and this is not something that only one person should be doing. We all should. Invite a friend to a race, somebody who maybe hasn’t been to a race in a few years, or has never been to a race. I have two friends who have never been to a race coming this weekend. Maybe they come out more often, or maybe not. But we need to try. And instead of complaining on Facebook, or one of the local forums about what is wrong with a track, maybe go to the track promoter, and offer some constructive ideas as to how to fix the issue.
Thanks for reading, and I encourage you all to become every bit a part of the racing community as I am, if not more. Stay dirty.
