At Seymour Speedway, it was hot and muggy, and the track was wet and tacky. Also a bit on the rough side. Today I was freed of my normal pit duties, so I took pictures from the infield instead. I managed to hold a low hover, thanks to the vulture sized mosquitoes that were trying to carry me away. I’ll get some time tomorrow to sift through the pictures and post some up.
Enough about that, let’s get on to the racing. The heats weren’t too bad, but the features were. The Sport 4′s were actually the first class to get eight lap in before the first caution. Too bad they were also the last class. Sport mods and street stocks looked alot like rookie mistakes, as we moved into the mods, the track got pretty rough, and it seemed a few people still believe that the race is won on the first green lap. What could have been some great three-wide racing was spoiled by roughness and bad driving. In the stocks, that was more bashing than racing. not only that, but I thought jumping the start resulted in the guilty driver getting docked spots, but apparently we changed the rules tonight. On one restart, Rod Snellenberger spun and was flipped over coming out of turn four. He landed on his wheels, and the ambulance came over to check him out, but he wouldn’t get out of his car. With a flat tire and a newly rolled roof, he drove off to the pits, and came back just in time to race. He came all the way back up to ninth place before he spun in turn three. Looked to me like he just overdrove it. So in a caution filled night, and a red flag for the ambulance to make a trip into the pits, Seymour is still cursed with the inability to get in a smooth program start to finish this year. Until next week, keep your travels on the asphalt, and your racin in the dirt!
Chad Bartel was the only Wi Dirt driver racing tonight, and he finished ninth. Thank you to the Bartel Racing team and CornerStone Pizza of Seymour for feeding me and keeping me hydrated!
